  • It's an extremely fine example of a 19th-century star-shaped fortress. I find this photo especially interesting as it shows the fort's evolution. You can clearly see where emplacements for much larger guns than the originals were imposed upon the old fort design. I'll definitely visit it if I'm ever in the area. Too bad though they have none of the old guns to mount as examples.
